“It was for Papilo, the legend Kanu Nwankwo. Growing up, my dad was a huge fan of Kanu,” Ndidi said after the game.

“In our house, Kanu was the ultimate hero.”

“I Did It for My Dad”

The 29-year-old midfielder explained that the celebration was a personal tribute to his father, who encouraged him into football.

“My dad always talked about his grace, his goals, and how he represented Nigeria,” Ndidi added.

“I told myself before the game that if I scored, I had to do it for my dad.”

A Lasting Legacy

Ndidi described the celebration as a way of appreciating his father’s guidance and sacrifices throughout his life and career.

“He’s the one who pushed me into football and always told me stories of the greats,” he said.

“Celebrating like Kanu in a Super Eagles jersey is my way of saying thank you. It’s a very proud moment for my family.”

The football community continues to send messages of support to Wilfred Ndidi and his family during this difficult time.
