Super Eagles captain Musa issues apology after Kano Pillars fans attack Shooting Stars

Super Eagles captain and Kano Pillars general manager, Ahmed Musa, has issued an apology following the violent scenes that disrupted Sunday’s Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter between Kano Pillars and Shooting Stars Sports Club at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

The match ended 1-1, but chaos erupted after fans of the home side invaded the pitch and attacked Shooting Stars players and match officials.

In a statement released late Sunday, Musa described the incident as “heartbreaking, shameful, and completely unacceptable,” insisting that such behaviour tarnishes the proud legacy of Kano Pillars.

“I, Ahmed Musa, the General Manager of Kano Pillars Football Club, extend my deepest and most sincere apologies for the unfortunate, painful, and disgraceful incident that occurred during our game against Shooting Stars Sports Club on Sunday evening,” he said.

He further emphasised that the scenes witnessed “do not represent the true values, identity, or proud history of Kano Pillars.”

Pillars to work with authorities to punish culprits

The former Leicester City and Al Nassr forward vowed that the club would cooperate fully with the relevant authorities to identify and sanction the perpetrators.

“Violence has no place in football. It is unacceptable, unjustifiable, and goes against everything this beautiful sport stands for,” he said.

“We understand that apologies alone are not enough. Words must be followed by action.”

The violence began moments after Shooting Stars equalised in stoppage time through Adams Mustapha, cancelling out an earlier strike by Mustapha Jibrin. The disallowing of a second Pillars goal for offside further inflamed tensions.

Club to implement reforms, urges fans to show discipline

This latest incident adds to Kano Pillars’ troubling record of fan-related misconduct. Since 2019, the club has reportedly been fined over ₦36 million for various cases of crowd trouble.

Addressing supporters directly, Musa urged them to demonstrate restraint and respect.

“To our loyal fans, true support is not shown through violence but through passion and discipline. This must be a turning point for us,” he appealed.

The 31-year-old captain concluded by pledging reforms to restore integrity and calm to the club.

“We take full responsibility and will do everything necessary to restore trust, respect, and the true spirit of football in Kano and across Nigeria.”
