“Stop making kids pay for your poor judgement of men” — Lady slams young single mothers

A viral video circulating on social media has sparked heated debate after a woman openly criticised what she described as the “glamourisation of single motherhood” among young African women.

In the video, the speaker, a 29-year-old woman, reacts to an earlier clip that questioned a 24-year-old single mother with two children who was reportedly promoting motherhood as “wonderful.”

Woman criticises glamourisation of single motherhood

The woman argued that such conversations are often treated as taboo in African societies, with critics branded as immoral or accused of attacking cultural values.

“As for me, I am 29 years old. If there is anything I have done for myself that I am actually proud of, besides collecting my degrees, it is the fact that I never got pregnant for any of my boyfriends that I dated in the past, however nice some of them were.”

According to her, the decision was shaped by the belief that unplanned pregnancies often lead to single parenthood and long-term hardship.

“I won’t have children outside marriage,” She says

She further questioned narratives that portray motherhood as the ultimate fulfilment for young women, asking whether those promoting it had experienced personal freedom, travel, or self-development.

She listed destinations such as the Maldives, Bali, Italy, Cape Town, and Victoria Falls as experiences she believes many young mothers may have missed.

The woman concluded by stating she would not bring children into society unless she was married, stressing that poor judgment in choosing partners should not result in children “paying for the sins” of their parents.
