Steven Gerrard rejects Rangers return

Steven Gerrard has reportedly turned down the opportunity to return to Rangers as manager.

The former Liverpool captain was in advanced talks with the Scottish club about replacing Russell Martin, who recently departed the Ibrox hot seat.

Gerrard walks away after positive talks

Gerrard held face-to-face discussions with Rangers and was close to finalising a deal for a sensational return.

However, sources say he was uncertain about the timing and ultimately decided to pull out of the process.

Despite walking away, the 44-year-old remains open to rejoining the Gers in the future. His decision leaves Rangers to explore alternative candidates as they look to appoint a new manager quickly.

Gerrard’s successful first spell remembered

Gerrard’s first stint at Ibrox, which began in 2018, remains one of the club’s most successful modern eras.

He guided Rangers to their first Scottish Premiership title in ten years, ending Celtic’s bid for a tenth consecutive crown, and restored the club’s competitive edge in Europe.

He left in 2021 to manage Aston Villa in the Premier League, but his return to Glasgow was widely anticipated by fans hoping for another successful chapter.

However, Gerrard’s decision to decline the offer means Rangers must now look elsewhere to fill the managerial vacancy.
