Stella Damascus, a Nigerian actress and singer, was born on April 24, 1978. She received a nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2009. She received Best Actress at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards in 2007. She received the Best Actress award for the film Two Brides and a Baby at the Golden Icons Academy Awards in Houston, Texas, in 2012.

Stella Damasus was born in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria’s South-South area. She has four sisters. She grew up in Benin City, where she finished the majority of her primary school.

Career

Damasus began her career as a vocalist in Lagos, where she performed as a studio session singer at the renowned Klink Studios, owned by filmmaker Kingsley Ogoro. She improved her singing skills there before going on to record vocals for top radio and TV jingles in Nigeria at the time.

Damasus is a theatre arts graduate from the University of Lagos in Nigeria. She debuted in the Nigerian film Abused in 1992. Her claim to fame, however, was her second film, Breaking Point, produced by Emem Isong and directed by Francis Agu, which catapulted her to superstardom in Nigeria. In 2006, she received an African Movie Academy Award nomination for “Best Actress in a Leading Role” for her role in the film Behind Closed Doors.

In 2008, she was nominated for an African Movie Academy Award for “Best Actress in a Leading Role” for the film Widow, and in 2009 for the film State of the Heart. She went on to star in more than 70 films. Damasus co-founded I2radio and broadcasts two podcasts, Undiluted with Stella Damasus and When Women Praise.

Stella Damasus husband

Damasus married her first husband, Jaiye Aboderin, when she was 21 years old, and the couple had two daughters before Jaiye died unexpectedly in 2004. Damasus remarried in 2007, this time to Emeka Nzeribe, and the marriage lasted seven months before they mutually agreed to divorce. In 2011, she became associated with multiple award-winning Nollywood producer and director Daniel Ademinokan, which eventually led to a separation in 2020 and a subsequent divorce.
