Stanley Nwabali, born on June 10, 1996, is a popular Nigerian footballer who plays as a custodian for Premier Soccer League club Chippa United and the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles. Nwabali gained popularity in 2023 during the AFCON tournaments. His efforts during the season won him a lot of accolades from Nigerian fans and others. He was even nominated for Best Keeper at the 2024 CAF Awards.

Nwabali was born on June 10, 1996, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to Igbo parents of Rivers State ancestry. He grew up in his home state and received most of his education there. We don’t know if Stanley has any siblings because he hasn’t mentioned them publicly.
There is little information available about his formal or football schooling. However, he received his first professional deal to maintain the goal for Rivers State-based football club, Go Round. F.C. Nwabali has played for several clubs in Nigeria before relocating to South Africa to play for Chippa United.
Career
In 2018, Nwabili joined Go Round, a Nigerian team headquartered in Omoku, before moving on to Enyimba in 2020, followed by Lobi Stars, Katsina United, and Chippa United, a South African club, in 2022.
Nwabili received his first cap for the Nigerian national team in a 2021 international friendly against Mexico in Los Angeles, United States.
In December 2023, he was called up to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in the Ivory Coast. He was voted Man of the Match in the semi-finals against South Africa, as he saved two penalties in a 4-2 triumph during penalty shootouts after a 1-1 draw, advancing his country to the final.

Personal Life
Stanley Nwabali married Nkechi Nwabali, a prominent fashion designer and businesswoman. The couple has two children, a son named Bobo Junior and a daughter named Adaora. Nwabali, a fervent Christian, typically credits his achievements to God’s kindness and direction. He looks up to Manuel Neuer, a German custodian. His surname, Nwabali, means “Child of the Night” in Igbo.
Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali had a personal sorrow while in camp with Nigeria, losing his father on 15 November, just a day after playing in the team’s 1-1 tie with the Benin Republic in the AFCON 2025 qualifying round.
He broke the terrible news on Instagram, with a teary emoji and the statement, “Rest in peace, dad.” While he did not reveal the cause of his father’s death, the tweet drew an outpouring of solidarity from fans and teammates alike.
When the Chippa United custodian returned to Uyo with the Super Eagles, he was granted leave from camp to attend to family matters. As a result, he missed Nigeria’s subsequent 2-1 loss to Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
At the beginning of 2025, sorrow struck again when Nwabali’s mother died. Following his heroics in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations, the Chippa United custodian was awarded a chieftaincy title in his homeland of Rivers State.
On Sunday, February 18, His Royal Majesty, Nzeobi Amida, monarch of the Mgbede community in the Egbema Kingdom in Rivers State, bestowed a chieftaincy title upon Nwabali. The custodian was later granted the title Ugo Egbema, meaning “The Pride of Egbema Kingdom”.
His Royal Majesty Nzeobi Amida stated that the accolade was in recognition of his performance at the AFCON, which has brought dignity to the Egbema Kingdom.
