Spain must reduce racism or risk 2030 World Cup rights – suggests Vinicius Jr
Real Madrid star Vinícius Júnior has suggested that Spain should be stripped of its 2030 World Cup hosting rights unless it reduces racism.
The 24-year-old Brazilian, who has been a frequent target of racist abuse from fans, made these remarks in a recent CNN interview, sparking intense debate in Spain.
Vinícius has been at the center of several high-profile incidents, including a notable case in Valencia where three men were jailed for racially abusing him, marking a first-of-its-kind guilty verdict in Spain.
His comments come as Spain, alongside Portugal and Morocco, prepares to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
“Until 2030, we have a lot of room to evolve. If by 2030 things don’t improve, I think we have to move the location.
“It’s a small group that ends up affecting the image of a country that’s good to live in,” Vinicius said.
