South Africa coach worried over WAFCON semis against Super Falcons

South Africa head coach Desiree Ellis has voiced concerns over her team’s limited recovery time ahead of their semi-final clash against Nigeria’s Super Falcons at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The reigning champions, Banyana Banyana, edged Senegal 4-2 on penalties in a gruelling quarter-final match on Saturday night, which ended goalless after 120 minutes of play.
With the Super Falcons securing their semi-final ticket a day earlier after defeating Zambia’s Copper Queens 5-0, Ellis is worried her squad may be at a disadvantage in terms of rest and preparation.
“We are going to prepare because 120 minutes with a day less to prepare and a day to travel takes a lot,” Ellis told Sowetan Live.
The highly anticipated clash which takes place on Tuesday by 5:00 PM, will see two of Africa’s top women’s football nations go head-to-head for a place in the WAFCON final.
