Lady apologises after claiming that Nigerian Army demanded ₦2m before releasing her brother’s corpse for burial

A lady who earlier alleged that the Nigerian Army demanded ₦2 million before releasing the body of her late soldier brother for burial has withdrawn the claim, describing it as a misunderstanding and apologising for the distress caused by her initial video.
The clarification comes hours after a viral social media video sparked public concern, with the grieving sister claiming that her family had been asked to pay ₦2 million before the remains of her brother could be transported home for burial in Benin City, Edo State.
In a new statement, the woman said the issue resulted from a communication breakdown between her family and military officials, stressing that the Nigerian Army never demanded the money.
“Concerning The Video I Made About The Nigerian Army Demanding ₦2 Million Before Releasing My Brother’s C0rps£, It Was A Miscommunication Between Myself And The Nigerian Army,” she said.
She added: “We Mistook What Was Said, And Everything Has Now Been Resolved. The Army Did Not Demand ₦2 Million, And I Want To Apologize For The Earlier Video. It Was An Emotional Moment For Me, Which Led Me To Make The Statement.”
Viral allegation sparked outrage
The controversy began after the woman shared an emotional video from what she said was her brother’s burial site.
In the footage, she alleged that the family had been informed that ₦2 million was required before the deceased soldier’s body could be brought home.
The claim quickly gained attention online, with many Nigerians questioning the alleged demand and expressing sympathy for the family.
In the video, she had stated: “They said they cannot be able to bring his corpse home till the family send 2 million Naira to the army.”
She also claimed the money was meant to cover transportation costs for conveying the remains from the military authorities to the family.
Family, army resolve misunderstanding
However, the woman has now clarified that no such demand was made by the Nigerian Army.
According to her, the matter has been resolved after further discussions and a better understanding of the information that was initially communicated.
She acknowledged that grief and emotions surrounding her brother’s death contributed to her reaction and the statements made in the viral video.
