Soldier raises alarm over Nigeria’s security crisis

A Nigerian soldier has raised fresh concerns about the country’s security situation following the killing of senior military officer, Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimah in a recent terrorist attack.

The soldier expressed worry over what he described as a lack of awareness among citizens, warning that the country is facing a serious security crisis.

He suggested that many Nigerians, particularly young people, are distracted by entertainment-related issues while the nation battles significant threats.

According to him, the situation has become more alarming given that even high-ranking officers are now being targeted, raising questions about the safety of ordinary citizens.

He also highlighted operational challenges faced during military engagements, suggesting that delays and logistical issues can affect response efforts.

“When soldiers dey fight they call for backup, you go hear excuses like the pilot wey suppose take off no dey seat. People don’t understand right now that Nigerian right now we are at war. And the most embarrassing part is the youth. Now everybody dey focused on Burna Boy, Wizkid and DJ Tunez.

Una never know wetin dey sup. If them fit knock out general..do you know the number of soldiers under a brigadier general? For them to get to a brigadier general?

When you see where the COAS or the minister of defense when them they go visit soldiers, if you see the movement, the w£apons, you go see f!ghter jet for up. You go come dey ask yourself so we get all these things?

I’ll keep saying this we are at w@r. But many people don’t even know. If it can be happening to top military officers, senior officers, what about the common man?,” he lamented.

Reports indicate that Oseni Omoh Braimah and several soldiers were killed during a coordinated attack by insurgent groups on a military base in Benisheikh, Borno State, on April 9, 2026.

The assault, which took place overnight, reportedly led to the destruction of military equipment before troops eventually repelled the attackers.
