“Snake paused on my leg before slithering away” – Lady recounts terrifying night encounter

A woman has recounted a frightening but unusual encounter after a snake reportedly made contact with her leg while she was waiting at a residential estate gate late at night.

The incident, which occurred after she had gone out to deliver a cake and stopped to buy pap (eko) and suya from a roadside vendor, has since gone viral online due to the calmness with which she reacted to the situation.

She explained that she was standing in slippers when she suddenly felt something cold on her leg, only to look down and discover a snake.

The moment comes amid recurring reports of snake sightings in urban and semi-urban areas across Nigeria, particularly during the rainy season when reptiles are more likely to leave hiding places in search of warmth and food.

Similar incidents were reported in 2023 in parts of Lagos estates, raising concerns about environmental sanitation and pest control.

Unexpected calmness during a dangerous moment

“I had just finished delivering a cake and stopped at the gate to buy pap and suya. While waiting, I suddenly felt something cold on my leg. When I looked down, it was a snake. The craziest part is that it paused on my leg for a few seconds,” she said.

“I didn’t scream or move. I just stayed still, hoping it would pass. After a while, it slowly moved away. Even I don’t know where that courage came from, because I was calm in a situation that should have terrified me,” she added.

She further joked that the experience has left her questioning whether to adopt a snake as a pet, although social media users have warned her against it.
