Singida clear Obasogie of match-fixing, reinstate goalkeeper

Singida Black Stars have cleared Nigerian goalkeeper Amas Obasogie of match-fixing allegations and reinstated him to the first team following a preliminary internal investigation.
The club had initially suspended the former Bendel Insurance shot-stopper for three months on February 27 after a series of costly errors raised suspicions during recent matches.
Investigation finds no wrongdoing
Singida Black Stars confirmed that the suspension has now been lifted after investigators found no evidence linking Obasogie to match manipulation.
In a statement signed by chief executive officer Jonathan Cassano, the club explained that concerns had emerged among management and supporters after repeated mistakes in matches against Flambeau du Centre in the CAF Confederation Cup and domestic league games against Pamba Jiji and Namungo FC.

However, the investigation concluded that the incidents were simply technical errors made during games rather than deliberate actions.
“After the initial investigation, the player’s defense, and a clear statement from the club’s general manager, it has been determined that there is no evidence of match-fixing or deliberate misconduct,” the club said.
Goalkeeper returns to squad
During the suspension, Obasogie strongly denied any involvement in match manipulation and pledged to cooperate fully with the investigation.
The club also revealed that the goalkeeper has apologised for the mistakes that triggered the controversy and has promised to improve his performances.
“Amas Obasogie has apologised for the circumstances that gave rise to these interpretations and has promised to work on the shortcomings that emerged to improve his level and restore the trust of fans and stakeholders,” the statement added.
With the suspension now reversed, the Nigerian international has been cleared to immediately resume his duties with the team.
The decision brings relief to Obasogie, whose brief suspension had cast doubt over his future at the Tanzanian club.
