Siasia urges Super Eagles to bank on Lookman, Arokodare against South Africa

Former Nigeria coach Samson Siasia has advised the Super Eagles to maximise Ademola Lookman’s set-piece ability and Tolu Arokodare’s physical presence when they face South Africa on Tuesday.
Nigeria makes the trip to Bloemfontein after a narrow 1-0 victory over Rwanda in Uyo, where Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Arokodare came off the bench to score the decisive goal.
The win kept the Super Eagles within touching distance of Group C leaders South Africa in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Speaking on SuperSport, Siasia said the result against Rwanda should boost confidence but warned that Bafana Bafana, who have won four straight qualifiers for the first time since 2002, will be formidable opponents at the Free State Stadium.
“Facing Nigeria has never been easy for South Africa, but we must have a clear plan,” Siasia said.
“We need to keep the ball, win free-kicks, and allow players like Lookman to make the difference. Arokodare can also be important in holding up play and creating chances.”
The 1994 AFCON winner urged Eric Chelle’s men to limit defensive errors, avoid unnecessary fouls, and seize opportunities away from home to secure at least a point, or ideally, all three, to strengthen their case for qualification.
