Shehu Buba’s aide resigns amid banditry allegations against senator

Senior Legislative Aide to Senator Shehu Buba Umar, Hon. Abba Aliyu Tilde, has resigned from his position, citing a breakdown in mutual respect, communication and trust in his working relationship with the Bauchi South senator.

Tilde, who served the Bauchi South senator, announced his resignation in a letter dated September 6, 2026, which stated that it took effect immediately.

According to Tilde, his decision followed a breakdown in respect, communication and trust between him and the senator.

His resignation comes amid fresh allegations linking Shehu Buba to banditry and terrorism. However, the senator has denied the allegations, describing them as false and politically motivated.

The claims followed the circulation of videos and social media posts alleging that suspected bandit kingpins had visited Buba’s residence.

The senator dismissed the materials as manipulated. He also disclosed that he had taken legal action against those behind the claims.

Tilde, however, did not accuse Buba of any involvement in banditry. He also did not connect his resignation to the allegations. Instead, he complained about being ignored in his role.

He pointed to a recent visit by Buba to his ward. According to Tilde, the senator held a meeting with residents without informing him.

In his resignation letter, Tilde wrote:

“Given my position and my connection to the people of the ward, I found this deeply disrespectful and hurtful. I believe that, at the very least, I deserved to be informed and carried along.

I cannot continue in a position where I feel that there is little regard for my contributions or for the relationship between us. Unfortunately, I no longer feel that mutual respect, communication and trust exist in our working relationship.”

Tilde described his resignation as “the most honourable decision” and thanked Buba for the opportunity to serve.
