“She was told kneeling to greet parents…” – Muslim father explains why he withdrew daughter from Islamic school

A Nigerian man has sparked reactions online after sharing why he allegedly withdrew his daughter from an Islamic school.

In a post shared on Instagram by @eye_opener220, he revealed that he became concerned when his daughter returned from school one day and walked past him and her mother without greeting them in the respectful manner she was raised to.

Recounting the incident, he said:

“I withdrew my daughter from an Islamic school after she came home and refused to greet us properly. She said her teacher told them that kneeling to greet parents is a sin and could lead to hellfire.”

According to him, the incident immediately raised concerns, prompting him to take his daughter back to the school to seek clarification from the teacher.

The father added that he was disappointed by the response he received, claiming the teacher stood by the teaching and attributed it to religious beliefs.

“At that moment, I knew I had a serious problem because that was a red flag. I took her back to the school and confronted the teacher. The response was simply, ‘Sorry, that’s what the religion says.’

“To me, that was a clear sign of a culture being taken away from our children. I am a Muslim and a proud Yoruba man,” he added.

He further argued that respect for elders remains a core part of Yoruba culture and that religious teachings should not erase positive cultural values that promote respect and good character.

His comments have since generated mixed reactions online, with some supporting his stance on preserving cultural values, while others argued that religion and culture should be treated separately.
