“She returned to school after 25 years and graduated with first class” – Daughter celebrates mom

A woman has warmed hearts online after celebrating her mother’s academic achievement, revealing that she returned to university over 25 years after earning her National Certificate in Education (NCE) and graduated with First Class Honours.

Remarkable academic comeback inspires many

The older woman, who also emerged as the Best Graduating Student, reportedly balanced her studies with years of family responsibilities, including raising children and managing household demands.

The story, shared on social media, has sparked admiration and renewed conversations about lifelong learning and perseverance in Nigeria’s education sector.

Her journey mirrors similar inspiring cases in recent years, where older adults have returned to school to complete degrees they once paused due to life challenges.

In 2022, several Nigerian universities reported an increase in mature students enrolling for undergraduate programmes, citing personal fulfilment and career advancement as key motivations.

Daughter shares emotional tribute

My mum is convocating today and my chest can’t contain how proud I am. After doing her NCE over 25 years ago, she finally went back to school to get her BSc, and she did it with so much grace and strength. She finished with First Class Honours and even became the Best Graduating Student,” she said.

After her NCE, life happened—children, bills, sacrifices. But she still found a way to return to the classroom, sit among younger students, and push through. When she told us her results, I cried, not just because of the grade, but because I know what it cost her to start again,” she added.

The inspiring milestone has been widely praised as a testament to resilience and the belief that it is never too late to achieve one’s dreams.
