“Shame on all women doing BBL” — Lady sparks online reactions

A Nigerian lady has sparked heated debate online after criticising the rising trend of Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgeries among women in Lagos, particularly in the Lekki area.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the woman expressed concern over what she described as an alarming obsession with cosmetic surgery.

She questioned why many women continue to undergo the procedure despite warnings about its health risks.

According to her, the pressure to achieve a “perfect” body shape has pushed some women to dangerous lengths, including borrowing money just to fund the surgery.

Concerns Over Rising BBL Trend in Lagos

In her post, the woman criticised those who undergo multiple surgeries even after receiving warnings from medical professionals.

She wrote that some women proceed with a second BBL despite serious advice from surgeons to avoid the risks.

You did the first BBL for the first time, and as if that wasn’t enough, you went for the second one despite a series of warnings from different surgeons; you still went ahead.”

She questioned the motivation behind the repeated procedures and urged women to reflect on the potential consequences.

Why? For what? You didn’t pause to ask yourself, what if I go and I don’t come back? What if?”

She further described the growing interest in cosmetic enhancement as a “BBL pandemic” in Lagos, claiming that many women now consider the surgery as a normal path to achieving beauty.

According to her, some women even take loans to pay for the procedure.

The BBL pandemic in Lagos, Lekki, is alarming. An average woman wants to do a BBL. Some will even borrow money for it. For what exactly?”

The woman also criticised the culture of body dissatisfaction, arguing that natural bodies are often more appreciated than many women believe.

If you know how men love natural body of a woman, you will stop self criticism that leads to self destruction.”

Mixed Reactions From Social Media Users

Her comments quickly gained attention online, with many users sharing different opinions on the controversial topic.

Some supported her concerns, while others argued that women should have the freedom to decide what they want to do with their bodies.

One user, Ebun, suggested that economic pressure may be pushing some women toward cosmetic procedures.

For hustle na…since she no get skills or job. The only thing they resort to in order to make money is their body.”

Another user, Don Zaga, offered a brief explanation for why some women continue with the procedure.

The reason is simple. Maintenance. It needs to be maintained.”

Abiola also shared concerns about the growing trend, pointing to reports of complications linked to some cosmetic clinics.

The Lagos BBL rush is heartbreaking women borrowing money, risking death (like recent cases at Cynosure with infections & fat embolisms claiming lives), all for a ‘perfect’ shape that’s already trending out.”
