Seyi Makinde fires back at Wike over comment on Oyo state PDP

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has sharply rebuked the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over his recent comments about developments within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State.

Wike had on Monday declared his interest in happenings within the Oyo PDP, saying his attention was driven by a desire to see the party survive and remain strong.

The former Rivers State governor stated that his concern stemmed from the PDP’s history as a former ruling party at the federal level.

“Let me declare my interest clearly: I am interested in the survival and success of this party. I am also interested in all the happenings in Oyo State PDP. That is all I am interested in,” Wike said.

However, Makinde, while responding on Tuesday, dismissed Wike’s remarks and described him and his supporters as “vagabonds” who have already been expelled from the PDP.

The Oyo governor questioned Wike’s moral authority to comment on PDP affairs in Oyo, asking what the FCT minister had done for the party in Rivers State, his home base.

“In Yorubaland, we say if you see a peaceful compound, the vagabond in that house has not grown up,” Makinde said. “The vagabonds in the PDP grew up in 2015. They had their time. For 10 years they practised their vagabondry in the PDP, but they were expelled in November 2025. So there are no more vagabonds in the PDP.”

He further challenged Wike’s interest in Oyo PDP affairs, saying, “Someone said he is interested in the activities of the PDP in Oyo State. Help me ask him what he has done for the PDP in Rivers State where he comes from.”

Makinde also ended his remarks with a Yoruba proverb, likening Wike and his allies to people “wearing rags and dancing in the middle of the night,” adding that daylight would soon expose them.
