Sevilla turn to Garcia Plaza as Adams, Ejuke set to get new boss

Sevilla have reached an agreement with Luis Garcia Plaza to take over as head coach following the dismissal of Matias Almeyda.
Almeyda, the former manager of Nigeria’s Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke was sacked on Monday after a 2-0 home defeat to Valencia, with the club sitting just three points above the relegation zone.
Swift managerial appointment
Sevilla moved quickly to secure a replacement, with negotiations for Garcia Plaza concluded shortly after initial talks began. The former Deportivo Alaves coach is expected to take charge after the international break.
The club opted for experience as they battle to avoid relegation, overlooking other candidates in favour of a manager familiar with La Liga pressures.

Instability and high stakes
Garcia Plaza becomes Sevilla’s ninth managerial appointment since the departure of Julen Lopetegui in 2022.
Defensive issues have been a major concern this season, with Sevilla conceding 49 goals in 29 league matches, the worst record in the division.
Off the pitch, uncertainty also remains. A takeover bid involving Sergio Ramos is currently in progress, but the club’s top-flight status could influence its outcome.
With the team set to face Real Oviedo in a key fixture after the break, Sevilla’s final stretch of the season is likely to determine both their sporting and financial future.
