Sevilla coach tells Ejuke what he must do to keep starting spot

Chidera Ejuke has been told he can remain in the starting XI at Sevilla if he continues to deliver the same level of performance shown against Real Sociedad.
Sevilla manager Luis Garcia praised the Nigerian winger after his impressive performance in the club’s 1-0 victory at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium.
Garcia praises Ejuke’s overall performance
Ejuke was one of Sevilla’s standout performers against Sociedad, using his pace and direct running to trouble defenders while also contributing defensively throughout the game.
The Nigerian, who has struggled for regular form this season, was handed a surprise start and responded with one of his strongest performances of the campaign.

“If he maintains this level, he’ll play,” Garcia said during his pre-match press conference ahead of Sevilla’s clash with RCD Espanyol.
Defensive work key to starting role
Garcia made it clear that Ejuke’s defensive contribution will be just as important as his attacking qualities if he wants to remain a regular starter.
“That’s what I told him. If he performs defensively, he has to play,” the Sevilla coach added.
“He hasn’t played since November, and I understood why he asked to be substituted in the 60th minute because it’s a long time, but he held on.”
The Sevilla boss also credited the home supporters for helping the winger push through fatigue late in the game.
Ejuke hoping for strong finish to difficult season
Despite enduring an inconsistent campaign, Garcia believes Ejuke still possesses qualities capable of helping Sevilla in their battle to secure positive results in La Liga.
“He found strength, and the crowd helped him a lot,” Garcia said.
“He was a bit tired towards the end, but he has a lot to offer us, at that level and with that directness to attack the opponent and get straight to the goal.”
Ejuke has registered one goal and one assist in 24 league appearances this season.
