“Settle for less or look for your fellow bricklayer” – Man roasts struggling ladies who wants high-standard men

A Nigerian man has left social media buzzing after sharing advice his pastor gave about marriage and poor ladies aiming for high-standard men.
In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by @dammiedammie35, he revealed that during a church exercise, members were asked to write down the type of person they hoped to marry.
That’s when he noticed something that didn’t sit well with him.
In his words, he said:
“Daughter of a poor man, if you cannot settle for less, then look for your fellow bricklayer, carpenter, or electrician to marry. A POS girl by my side wrote that she wants to marry a medical doctor.”
His words quickly sparked conversations about unrealistic expectations, social status, and the pressure Nigerian girls sometimes place on themselves when choosing a partner.
Many argued that aiming high is fine, but others pointed out that expecting a doctor while ignoring men “within reach” shows a lack of practicality.
Reactions on social media included: One user wrote, “Ah! Na so Nigerian girls dey think oh 😅” Another added, “Some girls really need to check their expectations 😅”
The video has reignited debates on ambition versus practicality in relationships, with users divided over whether pastors’ advice like this encourages realism or unfairly pressures women.
