Serie A: Milan table improved renewal offer for Chelsea target

AC Milan have stepped up efforts to secure the long-term future of goalkeeper Mike Maignan after submitting an improved contract extension proposal to the French international.

Reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport indicate the Rossoneri remain keen to resolve Maignan’s contract situation amid growing interest from several European heavyweights, including Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.

Maignan is entering the final year of his current deal, which runs until the end of the 2025-26 season.

The 30-year-old has been a cornerstone of Milan’s squad since arriving at San Siro, making 181 competitive appearances across four-and-a-half seasons.

European interest raises urgency

Despite ongoing talks, Milan are yet to reach a definitive agreement with Maignan, a delay that has put rival clubs on alert.

The situation has added urgency to negotiations, with Milan determined to avoid losing one of their most valuable assets.

According to the report, the club is “doing everything possible” to convince Maignan to commit his future to the project and remains confident a deal can still be concluded.

Financial details of Milan’s proposal

Milan are understood to have offered a new contract worth approximately €7 million per season net, inclusive of bonuses.

The proposed deal would run until either 2029 or 2030 and would see Maignan become one of the club’s top earners, alongside Rafael Leão.

However, Maignan is reportedly holding out for a salary starting at around €7.5 million per season, creating a narrow but significant gap in negotiations.

Contingency plans under consideration

Should talks fail to produce an agreement, Milan are already exploring alternatives.

Corinthians and Brazil goalkeeper Hugo Souza has been mentioned as a potential option, while Zion Suzuki had also been on the club’s radar prior to his injury.

For now, Milan’s priority remains clear: retain Maignan and shut the door on suitors circling one of Europe’s most reliable goalkeepers.
