Serie A: Lazio welcome Igor Tudor as new coach days after Sarri’s resignation

Igor Tudor has officially taken over at Lazio, signing an 18-month contract following Maurizio Sarri’s resignation last week.

Sarri’s departure came after a string of defeats, including an exit from the Champions League Round of 16 against Bayern Munich.

Giovanni Martusciello temporarily led the team to a Serie A victory against Frosinone, but Tudor’s arrival was already anticipated.

The Croatian coach, who turns 46 next month, arrived in Rome and was reportedly welcomed by the club.

Tudor brings a wealth of experience, having coached at various clubs including Olympique Marseille, Verona, Hajduk Split, Udinese, Galatasaray, Karabukspor, and PAOK Salonika.

He has also served as an assistant manager for the Croatia national team and worked alongside Andrea Pirlo at Juventus during the 2020-21 season.

Lazio, who currently sit 9th in the league table, will hope to turn their fortunes around with Tudor, and secure a spot for next season’s European football.
