Serie A: Hojlund credits Napoli coaches for breaking two-month goal drought

Rasmus Hojlund says targeted advice from Antonio Conte’s coaching staff transformed his movement in the box, leading directly to the two goals that fired Napoli to a 2-1 win over Juventus.

The Danish striker ended a two-month scoring drought with a decisive brace at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, securing a crucial victory despite Kenan Yildiz’s temporary equaliser.

Speaking to DAZN Italia after the match, Hojlund stressed that the performance was the product of collective execution rather than individual brilliance.

He highlighted the importance of his off-the-ball work and the tactical expectations placed on him by Conte.

Tactical shift behind the breakthrough

Hojlund revealed that Napoli coaches had spent days drilling him on attacking the front post, urging him to vary his runs rather than drifting consistently to the back post.

“The staff talked a lot about my movement in the box. I’ve been going a lot to the back post, but they said there’s space in the front. I attacked the front more and it worked,” he said.

His celebration after the opener made that clear, thanking David Neres for the cross while gesturing toward the bench to acknowledge the training-ground instructions.

Loan uncertainty, clear intent

On loan from Manchester United with an option that could become an obligation to buy, Hojlund hinted strongly that he sees his long-term future in Naples, even promising: “Next season, I’ll give my interviews in Italian.”

Conte’s side, suffering an injury crisis in midfield, were forced into a tactical overhaul.

The 3-4-2-1 system, with Neres and Noa Lang operating behind Hojlund, delivered a dynamic and aggressive performance that Juventus struggled to contain.

Napoli maintain dominance over Juventus

Napoli’s victory extends their extraordinary run of seven straight home wins against Juventus in Serie A.

Captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo praised the intensity and mentality that defined the team’s display.

He also hailed Hojlund’s attitude, noting that the striker’s contribution goes beyond goals.

“We had a really good, intense performance with a high tempo,” Di Lorenzo said. “I’m pleased for Rasmus. He scored twice, but he always helps us every game.

“In difficult moments, we gave a strong response, that’s the sign of great team spirit.”
