Ruben Amorim hints at possible exit after Man United’s latest defeat

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has admitted he may walk away from the club following their dismal 2-0 defeat to West Ham on Sunday.

The dismal result saw the Red Devils fall to 16th in the Premier League table and suffer a 17th league loss this season.

Despite having guided United to the Europa League final, Amorim was candid in acknowledging that deep-rooted issues persist at Old Trafford.

Their current domestic form mirrors the infamous 1973/74 campaign, the last time United were relegated with 17 league defeats now marking a grim record not seen since that season.

Speaking after the loss, Amorim told the BBC: “Everybody here has to think seriously about a lot of things.

“The final is not the issue. We have bigger things to think about. I’m talking about myself, the culture in the club, and the culture in the team. We need to change that.”

The Portuguese manager, who replaced Erik ten Hag in November on a two-and-a-half-year deal, suggested that the Europa League final against Tottenham is papering over wider structural failings.

“It’s a decisive moment in the history of the club,” he added. “We need to be really strong in the summer and to be brave. If the feeling remains like this, we should give the space to different people.”

Amorim also cast doubt on the club’s readiness for Champions League football. “To be honest with you, I’m not concerned about the final.

“It’s by far the smallest problem. Playing Premier League and Champions League for us is the moon.”

United’s defeat came just days after a 4-1 thrashing of Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League semi-final second leg.

But reality struck at Old Trafford as Tomas Soucek opened the scoring for West Ham, turning in a low cross from Mohammed Kudus.

Jarrod Bowen added the second, converting a delivery from former United full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka after more defensive lapses, bringing misery to United at Old Trafford.
