Rosenior ‘proud’ of Chelsea progress despite Carabao Cup exit

Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior expressed satisfaction with his side’s development despite their elimination from the Carabao Cup following a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
The loss ended Chelsea’s five-game winning streak and confirmed their exit at the semi-final stage, with Arsenal progressing to the final on aggregate.
While disappointed with the result, Rosenior pointed to clear signs of improvement compared to the first leg and stressed the need for patience as his tenure continues.
Chelsea struggled to overturn a 3-2 deficit from the opening leg but delivered a more controlled and competitive display under the midweek lights.

Improved performance at the Emirates
Rosenior acknowledged that circumstances surrounding the first leg played a role in the tie, highlighting the challenges he faced shortly after taking over the team.
“In the first leg, I’m not making excuses, but we had an illness go through the camp on the day of the game, we had four players missing, and I’d been in charge for three days,” Rosenior said.
Chelsea set up with greater defensive discipline in the second leg and limited Arsenal for long spells, though clear-cut chances were scarce as the hosts maintained control of the aggregate scoreline.
Despite the defeat, Rosenior was encouraged by the players’ response and attitude, particularly given the short turnaround between matches and the physical demands of the schedule.
Focus on growth and consistency
The Chelsea boss praised his squad’s commitment and intensity, insisting the performance reflected a team beginning to adapt to his ideas.
“I cannot fault the application, intensity or the fight of the players,” he said.
Rosenior emphasised that the Carabao Cup exit should be viewed in the wider context of Chelsea’s rebuilding process, rather than as a setback that defines their season.
“What we need to do is remember this is the start and I’m really, really happy with a lot of things I’m seeing,” he added.
With Chelsea still competing on multiple fronts, Rosenior noted the importance of recovery and gradual improvement as the campaign progresses.
“You want to get the results, but we need to make sure we rest and recover and we keep improving as we go,” he said.
Chelsea now turn their attention back to league duties against Wolves this weekend, where Rosenior will look to build on recent performances.
