Rooney: Man City hold mental advantage over Arsenal in Premier League title race

Wayne Rooney has delivered a blunt assessment of the Premier League title run-in, stating that Manchester City possess a clear psychological advantage over Arsenal.
With Arsenal sitting six points clear but having played a game more, attention now shifts to Sunday’s decisive clash at the Etihad Stadium, a fixture Rooney believes could define the title race.
Experience vs pressure
Rooney’s position is that City’s track record gives them the upper hand in the title race.
“They know how to win the title and they have a manager who knows how to do it,” he said, referencing Pep Guardiola’s proven pedigree.

From a performance psychology standpoint, Rooney highlighted composure as the differentiator. “They will be able to stay a little calmer than the Arsenal players,” he added.
City’s win at Chelsea pleads their title case
City’s 3-0 win over Chelsea, coupled with Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth, has tightened the race and shifted narrative control.
Rooney frames next Sunday’s encounter as a “title decider,” with the winner emerging as clear favourites to lift the trophy.
Tactical directive for Arsenal
From a tactical lens, Rooney advised a pragmatic, results-first approach for Mikel Arteta’s side, recommending that they; maintain compact defensive structure, eliminate space between lines, and prioritise transition opportunities
He also suggested Arsenal may need to adopt a more combative edge. “They have to do anything to stop City winning… they need to be resilient enough to stop City from scoring,” he added.
