Rivers LG chairman reportedly attacks young girl for exposing school’s poor condition online

Tension has risen in Rivers State following allegations that the Chairman of Ahoada West Local Government Area, Hon. Eugene Chita Epelle, attacked a teenage girl for exposing the poor state of a government secondary school in her community.
The incident reportedly occurred after the young girl shared photos and videos online showing the deteriorating condition of the school building, drawing public attention to the situation.
School’s Condition Sparks Outcry
The affected school is located in Oduoku Community in Ahoada West. The community is also home to the council chairman and the wife of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
In a video that has since circulated widely, the teenager appealed to local authorities to urgently intervene and improve learning conditions for students.
“So as we all know, the future of this country is in the hands of these youths. And if they don’t have a solid background in education, then our future will be jeopardized.
So we are calling on the chairman, Honorable Eugene Chita Epelle, the deputy chairman of Ahoada West, to come to the rescue of these ch1ldren. They need school chairs. They need boards.
They need windows. They need general renovations. The school don’t have electricity. They don’t even have teachers. Before now, they had over 1,000 students in the school but right now. They cannot even boast of 100.”
The video highlighted broken infrastructure, lack of classroom furniture, absence of electricity, and shortage of teachers.
Residents say the school once had a large student population but has experienced a sharp decline in enrolment due to its current state.
Allegation of Assault
Shortly after the video gained attention online, reports emerged that the chairman allegedly confronted and manhandled the girl over her post.
