Brazil began their World Cup campaign on Thursday night with a 2-0 win over European side, Serbia.

Second-half goals from Richarlison, including a spectacular overhead kick, helped Brazil outclass Serbia 2-0 in their World Cup opener, propelling the five-times champions to the top of Group G.

In the first half of the match, Brazil dominated in knocking shots off on goal. Despite their close attempts, they were unable to find the net.

The game took a quick turn after Brazil found their stride late in the second half and Richarlison went on to score his long-awaited first goal in the 62nd minute.

Twelve minutes later, Richarlison went on to strike again with an impeccable scissor kick from the center of the box to hold the lead over Serbia.

It was the perfect evening for the South Americans, but for Neymar’s injury: a sprained ankle. The Brazilian talisman was in tears, perhaps fearing or suspecting that his tournament would be over, even though Brazil’s team doctor and Tite offered reassuring words about the gravity of Neymar’s injury.

He remains the lodestar of the team, even if he is no longer the center of gravity. Brazil have moved away from Neymar-dependency with the emergence of Vinicius Jr. and other young stars.
