“Rev. Fathers, Bishops, Pastors, make una go learn work” — Woman laments heavy church contributions

A Nigerian woman has stirred widespread reactions online after a video of her passionately criticising church leaders over financial demands went viral on social media.
In the trending clip, the visibly emotional woman appealed directly to religious leaders, urging them to learn vocational skills instead of relying heavily on church contributions from members.
Outcry Over Financial Burden on Worshippers
The woman, speaking in Pidgin English, expressed frustration over what she described as excessive financial pressure placed on congregants.
She said: “Na beg I dey beg, Reverend Fathers, Bishops, Pastors, make una go learn work, my knees are on the ground, make una go learn work.
Na beg I dey beg, make una go learn work oooh. We don tire. Church contribution, cathedral this, cathedral that, make una go learn work.”
She further criticised what she perceived as lavish spending among some church leaders, claiming it goes beyond what is expected of ordinary individuals.
“You no say una don dey spend money too much pass normal man. All this church leaders, na him make women them dey rush come una side.”
The woman went on to suggest that pastors and other clerics should consider learning trades or opening businesses to support themselves financially.
“Make una try learn work even if tailor, vulcanizer, anything, importer, exporter, make una go learn work. Open shop make una dey from una shop spend money, we don tire.”
Mixed Reactions Trail Viral Clip
The video has since generated heated discussions across social media platforms, with many users sharing differing opinions on the issue.
Some supported her stance, arguing that churches should focus more on community support rather than constant fundraising.
One user, Medici, wrote: “And what she said now is biblical but most of you don’t know because your pastors don’t preach those verses so you never get to know.”
Another user, Xutyn, commented: “Church is meant to collect little percent and still give back to the community, the needy and others. But here churches collect, pastor use it to build private houses, schools and SUV 🚙. It is left for church goers to be wise with their money.”
However, others criticised the tone of the message, suggesting that generalising all church leaders may be unfair.
Ekeanyanwu added: “i”m happy people re awakening gradually these pastors re demons milking from poor people.”
