Retired soldier blasts FG for gifting Super Falcons $100k, rejects ₦8m benefit after 31 years in army
A retired Nigerian soldier has publicly criticized FG for gifting $100,000 to each Super Falcons player following their win against Morocco in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, while she and other veterans are being neglected despite years of military service.
The woman voiced her frustration in a video shared on TikTok, where she revealed that after serving the Nigerian Army for 31 years, she was given only ₦8 million as her benefit—an amount she said cannot even buy a plot of land.
In the video, she said, “Imagine, I served for 31 years and they’re giving me 8 million that is not enough to buy a plot of land for myself. I served them, gave my life for them.”
“When I was in the army you wouldn’t know me. Majority of them can’t recognize me now as I’ve left the job. They were frustrating me up and down. Now, pay us the money they refused.”
She continued, “Pay us parking allowance they refused, pay us SAD they refused to pay us. By right, as you reach 30 years in service they’re supposed to pay us our SDA approved by the Nigeria defense.”
“They’re giving me ₦3.4 million which isn’t up to half as somebody that has served up to 31 years.”
Expressing the weight of military sacrifice, she added, “If army happens to go for strike in 24 hours, the whole country Nigeria sink. They’ll bomb that villa wey e dey. We’re giving our life for them and yet, they’re not recognizing soldiers. Can he stand for one minute without a soldier behind him?”
She further appealed to the federal government to understand the value of soldiers in national security and ensure retired military personnel receive the recognition and payment they deserve.
The video also featured several other retired personnel expressing similar grievances, sparking widespread reactions as many Nigerians flooded the comment section to voice their opinions.
