Reno Bemigho Omokri (b. 1974) is a Nigerian novelist, columnist, adventurer, and social media influencer. Reno Omokri rose to prominence as President Goodluck Jonathan’s Special Assistant, during which time he promoted government programs on social media.

Bemigho Reno Omokri (born January 22, 1974) is a Nigerian author, lawyer, social media personality, and political activist. He is originally from Warri in Delta State, Nigeria. He has now become an outspoken political activist who frequently criticises government policies. Reno Omokri finished his primary and secondary education in Delta State, Nigeria. He later earned a master’s degree in law from the University of Wolverhampton in England, which has helped him be more effective in political engagement.
Career
Omokri worked as vice president for Joe Trippi and Associates, a political consulting firm based in the United States. As President Goodluck Jonathan’s Special Assistant, he was known for leveraging social media to conduct surveys and raise awareness of Nigerian government programs.
In 2011, Omokri urged Nigerians residing outside Nigeria to support Jonathan in the 2011 elections. Omokri signed a letter from a group known as G 57 calling for Yar’adua’s resignation.
Between 2015 and 2016, Omokri hosted Transformations With Reno Omokri, a Christian teaching program that aired on Comcast, DISH Network, and Roku. The Mind of Christ Christian Centre in California produced the 30-minute weekly show.
Omokri has been in dispute with Nigerian authorities since May 29, 2015, because he opposes the present government’s policies. He has also been a famous conservative, advocating for the moral regeneration of society.
Controversy
On Tuesday, October 12, 2021, Natasha Akpoti, a female gubernatorial candidate for Kogi State, said that Omokri propositioned her on May 6, 2014, during a state banquet for Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In response, Omokri offered a $50,000 reward to anyone who could provide a photograph or video of him at the Uhuru Kenyatta banquet, as well as evidence in the form of a British Airways ticket and Nigerian and American immigration stamps on his passport proving he was not in the country at the time. Natasha Akpoti, who accused him, then destroyed all evidence of her accusations from her social media accounts.
Reno Omokri’s ex-wife accused him of abandoning his special needs son on August 31, 2025, and called for ‘real parenting, not staged photos. ‘ However, a special investigation by an investigative newspaper found that she had filed fake abuse allegations against Omokri, which were reviewed by the California Department of Children and Family Services, which cleared Omokri of her charges. On April 11, 2019, Omokri donned the personalised #FreeLeahSharibu tracksuit over Mount Everest in Nepal. Omokri received the Humanitarian of the Year award at the Hollywood Weekly Magazine Film Festival on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at Warner Brothers Studios in Burbank, California, for his contributions to the #FreeLeahSharibu movement.
On April 2, 2021, Omokri led a series of protests in London, urging General Buhari to return to Nigeria rather than relying on the UK for healthcare. Mr Buhari had travelled to London the previous day.
On Friday, September 24, 2021, Omokri led a protest against Nigerian President Buhari in New York, where he was attending the seventy-sixth session of the United Nations General Assembly. The Nigerian Consulate summoned the New York Police Department to respond to protesters, but no arrests or interventions were made because the demonstration was peaceful.
However, after the protest, Mr Omokri was traced to his hotel by an assailant and attacked. He was only saved by his security, Mr Sean Reilly, who battled the attacker, chased him away, and contacted the cops. The entire incident was captured on video and broadcast by the media.
The next day (Saturday, September 25, 2021), a pro-Buhari group released a statement, which was reported by the government-leaning Daily Times, warning Mr Omokri of additional “deadly” attacks.
Omokri launched a petition on the Change.org platform on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, requesting that the International Criminal Court prosecute and imprison Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari for the #LekkiMassacre of peaceful, unarmed #EndSARS protesters, following the Lagos #EndSARS panel’s indictment in its report.
In less than 24 hours, 40,000 people had signed the petition, and by Friday, November 19, 2021, it had become the fastest signed petition of Nigerian origin, according to Nigeria’s most popular daily newspaper, The Punch.
On January 30, 2025, a Federal High Court annulled a remand order issued against Omokri by Pastor Paul Enenche of Dunamis International Gospel Centre. Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna ordered Omokri’s name to be erased from the First Information Report (FIR).
During the 2023 Nigerian elections, Omokri attacked Enenche for engaging in partisan politics from the pulpit. He said that Enenche used his power to campaign for Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, which he said violated church registration requirements and the Electoral Act.
Reno Omokri spoke on a panel at the TRT World Forum in Istanbul, Turkey, on November 1, 2025. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended the event. His address at the event went viral, with him standing out for Africa against the discriminatory labels used by the West.
