“Remove the Okuku from my head, I’m not getting married again” – Bride cancels wedding over sprayed money dispute

A Nigerian bride has gone viral after dramatically calling off her wedding upon learning that the groom’s family would be responsible for picking the money sprayed during the ceremony.
In a viral video circulating on X (formerly Twitter), the visibly upset bride questioned the tradition, insisting that the money should be picked by her own family rather than the groom’s relatives.
Expressing her frustration, she said:
“Una don see where groom family for dey pick money for marriage? Abeg, comot the okuku wey dey my head. I’m not getting married again. How will he say his family will be the one to pick our money? I no go allow am.”
The bride insisted she could not go ahead with the wedding over the disagreement, describing the groom as a “mummy’s boy.”
She maintained that there were many other men she could marry instead of settling for someone she believed was overly influenced by his family.
According to her, allowing the groom’s family to collect the sprayed money was unacceptable, as she believed it was a responsibility that belonged to the bride’s family. She said the disagreement was enough reason to call off the wedding.
“Please remove the okuku on my head. It’s the bride’s family that picks money during the ceremony. What kind of nonsense is that? I can’t get married to a mummy’s boy. Husband full everywhere. Make he go look for him wife for front, so they can be doing mummy’s boy and mummy’s girl together,” she added.
The video has since generated mixed reactions on social media, while some users supported the bride’s stance, others criticized her decision, saying the issue could have been resolved through discussion rather than cancelling the wedding.
