Real Madrid cool Rodri interest ahead of Man City clash

Real Madrid have reportedly removed Rodri from their immediate summer transfer shortlist, despite long-standing admiration for the Manchester City midfielder.
The decision comes on the eve of another high-profile European meeting between the two clubs, a rivalry that has become one of the defining fixtures of the modern Champions League era.
Madrid remain determined to strengthen their midfield ahead of next season, but reports in Spain indicate the 29-year-old is no longer viewed as a priority target as the club reshapes its recruitment strategy.
Madrid turn attention to younger midfield targets
Club officials are instead focusing on younger midfielders who fit the long-term squad planning at the Bernabéu.

Among the names attracting attention is Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace, who has emerged as a serious option after an impressive rise in the Premier League.
Madrid scouts are also monitoring Kees Smit of AZ Alkmaar and Vitinha from Paris Saint-Germain.
The Spanish giants are also seeking to reshape their midfield following the dominant era led by Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.
Rodri focused on Manchester City future
Rodri’s contract at Manchester City runs until June 2027, and club officials are reportedly keen to secure an extension as the midfielder continues to play a central role in Pep Guardiola’s system.
Speculation around his future has grown amid uncertainty over Guardiola’s long-term plans at the Etihad Stadium.
However, Rodri’s camp has played down talk of a potential move. His father, Antonio Hernandez, addressed the rumours during an appearance at the National Sports Awards.
“He is very comfortable where he is,” Hernandez said. “You will understand the natural reserve in these circumstances. I don’t know anything and I’m saying it truthfully. I don’t know anything, history has to be written. He is crazy about going to the World Cup.”
Injury impact and rivalry context
Rodri has recently returned to form after injury disruptions earlier in the season, appearing in 11 consecutive Premier League matches.
His absence during parts of the campaign, including a league phase Champions League visit to Madrid, reportedly created distance between the player and the Spanish club during a key scouting period.
