RB Leipzig pushing to sign Chelsea’s Chukwuemeka

RB Leipzig are actively pursuing Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka, a player who has recently caught the attention of Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle as Nigeria prepares for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Per Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Leipzig have entered discussions with Chelsea over a permanent transfer for the 21-year-old England youth international of Nigerian descent.

Chelsea are insisting on selling Chukwuemeka outrightly, rather than a loan deal, in a bid to reduce squad size and manage Financial Fair Play obligations.

Borussia Dortmund also remain interested in re-signing the player after a 17-game loan stint last season.

However, their persistence on another loan deal has stalled talks, with Chelsea not entertaining temporary exits anymore.

Leipzig’s strong interest in Chukwuemeka may be crucial in a wider move involving Dutch star Xavi Simons.

Recall Chelsea are reportedly keen on bringing Simons to Stamford Bridge, and Leipzig could leverage their pursuit of Chukwuemeka as part of the negotiation framework.

Signed from Aston Villa in 2022, Chukwuemeka still has three years remaining on his Chelsea contract.

His limited playing time at Stamford Bridge has prompted interest across Europe, with Leipzig now leading the race.
