Raphinha wins back-to-back La Liga Player of the Month awards

Barcelona captain Raphinha has been named La Liga Player of the Month for September, making it consecutive monthly awards for the Brazil international.

The forward also claimed the prize for August after continuing his impressive form under Hansi Flick at the start of the new campaign.

Raphinha’s September performances saw him contribute goals and assists as Barcelona maintained their strong run, earning another individual honour for his displays.

The Barcelona star scored against Valencia and provided two assists in the victory over Levante.

He also produced match-winning performances against Racing and Sevilla, collecting the match ball after both games as Barcelona continued to benefit from his attacking output.

Raphinha saw off competition from several high-profile forwards to retain the award.

Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe, Atletico Madrid forward Jonathan David, Rayo Vallecano’s Sergio Camello and Elche striker Fer Nino were among the players competing for the September prize.

The award caps another impressive month for Raphinha, who has taken on a different role for Barcelona this season.

Barcelona captain thriving in new role

Raphinha has increasingly operated as a No. 9 under Flick after previously playing primarily from the wing.

The change has allowed the Brazilian to become more involved in central attacking areas and he has responded with consistent contributions in front of goal.

His run of form has now been interrupted by injury, however, leaving his availability for Barcelona’s upcoming meeting with Getafe uncertain.

Should Raphinha miss the fixture, his absence could give other contenders an opportunity to make an early case for October’s Player of the Month award.
