Ramadan starts on Friday as Sultan announces sighting of new crescent

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar Sa’ad III has declared tomorrow, Friday, 1st of Ramadan 1441 A.H, marking the beginning of the month-long compulsory fast, amidst coronavirus pandemic

The Amir-ul-Mu’mineen of Nigerian Muslims and Sultan of Sokoto made the announcement during a nationwide broadcast on NTA at exactly 8:45pm (Nigerian time) as monitored by Muslim News.

The Sultan said the new moon of Ramadan was sighted in many cities in Nigeria and authenticated by the moon sighting committee of the Sultanate council.

Unlike previous years, the President-general of NSCIA didn’t disclose the States where the new Crescent was sighted..
