Presidency debunks fake tweet of Trump criticising Tinubu over Maiduguri suicide bombing

The Nigerian Presidency has dismissed a viral screenshot claiming to show United States President Donald Trump criticising President Bola Tinubu’s handling of security in the North-East as false.
Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, took to X on Tuesday to call the circulating post “Fake!!!”.
He included an image of the doctored screenshot to visually debunk the claim.
Presidency Denies Trump Criticism
The alleged tweet, widely shared on social media, reportedly accused Tinubu of ignoring insecurity while on a state visit to the United Kingdom. It referenced recent deadly attacks in Maiduguri, Borno State, claiming:
“The situation in Nigeria is a total disaster. Massive, coordinated suicide bombings occurred tonight in Maiduguri. A hospital, a major market, and the post office were all hit. Many innocent people were killed.
This is what happens when there is no leadership and borders are open to terrorists. While his country is in a state of national emergency, President Tinubu is currently in the UK on a “State Visit.”
Unbelievable! Shaking hands and attending fancy dinners while his people are being blown up? I don’t think so! Prime Minister Starmer should tell him to get on a plane and go home immediately. You don’t stay abroad during a crisis like this.
A real leader is on the ground with the military and the people, not cutting ribbons in London. Nigeria is a great country with wonderful people, but they are being let down by a government that isn’t focused on strength and security.
Close the borders, find the terrorists, and protect your citizens. Everything else can wait. Truth!”
However, independent verification shows that no such tweet exists on any verified Trump accounts, including @realDonaldTrump, or official White House channels.
The Presidency’s statement serves to caution the public against spreading misinformation regarding sensitive national security matters.
