Premier League record-holder Milner announces retirement

Former England international James Milner has announced his retirement from professional football, bringing an end to a remarkable 24-year career in the Premier League.
The veteran midfielder leaves the game at the age of 40 after spending the last three seasons with Brighton & Hove Albion.
Milner was a free agent following the expiration of his contract and has now decided to call time on one of the most enduring careers in English football.

Earlier this year, Milner became the player with the most appearances in Premier League history, surpassing the previous record and further cementing his place among the competition’s all-time greats.

Renowned for his versatility, professionalism and longevity, he played in multiple positions throughout his career and remained a valuable squad member well into his late thirties.
Trophy-laden career
Milner began his professional journey with Leeds United before going on to represent several clubs in England’s top flight.
His career included successful spells at Manchester City and Liverpool FC, where he collected some of the biggest honours in the game.
The former England midfielder won three Premier League titles, lifting two with Manchester City and another with Liverpool.
He was also a key member of Liverpool’s squad that won the UEFA Champions League in 2019 under Jurgen Klopp.
