“Please help me…” — Pregnant woman begs authority to release husband jailed for 6 years over domestic violence

A pregnant woman in Ghana has appealed to authorities to release her husband from prison after he was sentenced to six years for assaulting her.

The woman, identified as 22-year-old Priscilla Sackey, said she never expected the case to end with her husband behind bars for such a long period.

Her husband, Richard Adjei, is currently serving the jail term following reports of domestic violence.

How The Incident Started

According to Priscilla, the situation began when she reported Richard to the police after he allegedly beat her. She said the report was meant to scare him and stop the abuse, not to have him imprisoned.

She explained that when the police came to arrest him, Richard was not at home. However, when he later returned and discovered that she had reported him, he allegedly attacked her again.

The second incident reportedly worsened the situation.

Family Member Took Further Action

Priscilla said her aunt became angry after learning about the repeated abuse and decided to take the matter further.

The aunt reportedly filed another complaint with authorities, which eventually led to Richard’s arrest and prosecution.

The court later convicted him and sentenced him to six years in prison.

Woman Now Pleads For His Release

Speaking during an interview with Crime Check, Priscilla admitted that her husband had been abusive in the past. However, she said she still needs his presence and support as she prepares to raise their child.

The young woman also said the situation has become harder because both her own family and her husband’s relatives have abandoned her.

Priscilla added that if her husband were free, he would at least be able to work and help provide for their child.

At least if Richard were here, he would be working and helping to take care of us. Please help me get him released,” she pleaded.
