“Please help me beg him” — Woman pleads in court as husband seeks divorce over non-submissiveness

A heartbreaking marital dispute unfolded in Ilorin, Kwara State, as Mariam Alagbede of Idiape village, Ogidi Area, appeared before the Area Court, Centre-Igboro, pleading for her husband to forgive her and reconsider divorcing her.
Mariam, visibly distressed, appealed to the court to intervene, saying, “I don’t want divorce. Please sir, help me beg him to forgive me for any wrong I might have done.” She stressed that she remains committed to the marriage and is willing to take any steps to restore peace.

Her husband, Muhammed Bashir, who married Mariam three years ago, told the court that he was no longer satisfied with the marriage.
He cited a lack of love and claimed that his wife had been non-submissive as the reasons for seeking a divorce. Bashir’s statement highlights the ongoing tension and disagreements that have strained their relationship over the years.
Presiding Judge Toyin Aluko urged both parties to explore ways for reconciliation, suggesting that both families get involved to mediate and resolve the issues amicably.

The judge emphasised that efforts toward understanding and compromise could prevent the marriage from completely breaking down.
The court subsequently adjourned the case, leaving Mariam’s plea pending further discussions between the families.
