Pepe to join Mourinho coaching staff at Real Madrid

Former Real Madrid defender Pepe is reportedly set to return to the club as part of Jose Mourinho’s coaching staff following the Portuguese manager’s expected appointment at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The move comes after Florentino Perez secured another term as Real Madrid president, paving the way for Mourinho’s anticipated return to the Spanish giants.
Although the club has yet to make an official announcement, reports suggest Mourinho has already begun planning for the next phase of his project as Real Madrid seek to end a two-year wait for major silverware.
Pepe lined up for coaching debut
According to reports in Spain, Pepe is expected to become one of Mourinho’s first additions behind the scenes.
The former Portugal international retired from professional football in 2024 and is now poised to begin his coaching career at the club where he enjoyed some of the most successful years of his playing career.

Pepe spent a decade at Real Madrid and established himself as one of the club’s most influential defenders.
During his time at the Bernabeu, he made 334 appearances and helped the team win numerous trophies, including three UEFA Champions League titles.
His close relationship with Mourinho, forged during their time together between 2010 and 2013, is believed to be a key factor behind the proposed appointment.
Mourinho begins rebuilding plans
Mourinho is reportedly eager to include figures with strong ties to Real Madrid as he reshapes both the playing squad and coaching structure.
Pepe is seen as someone who understands the club’s culture and expectations, making him a valuable link between the dressing room and the coaching staff.
The 43-year-old enjoyed a highly successful spell with Los Blancos and was known for his leadership, competitive mentality and commitment on the pitch.
Alongside changes to the coaching team, Mourinho is also said to be assessing potential transfer targets as Real Madrid prepare for a new era under Perez’s continued leadership.
