PDP names 13 sub-committees ahead of Ibadan convention

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has unveiled 13 sub-committees to prepare for its national convention scheduled for 15 November in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Convention planning kicks off

The committees will oversee accommodation, accreditation, electoral process, mobilisation, medical, welfare and entertainment, publicity, security, protocol, transportation, venue, and monitoring/evaluation.

According to the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC), more than 1,500 members will serve across the different groups.

The party leadership says the move is to ensure smooth organisation and credible proceedings ahead of the much-anticipated event.

Governors lead major committees

Adamawa governor Ahmadu Fintiri, who chairs the NCOC, will also head the electoral sub-committee, putting him at the centre of convention planning.

Oyo governor Seyi Makinde has been assigned to chair the transportation sub-committee, while Osun governor Ademola Adeleke will handle accommodation.

Zamfara governor Dauda Lawal will oversee accreditation, while Bayelsa governor Douye Diri is in charge of contact and mobilisation.

Plateau governor Caleb Muftwang is to head protocol, Taraba governor Kefas Agbu takes charge of security, while Bauchi governor Bala Mohammed leads publicity.

Other notable appointments

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has been appointed to lead the medical sub-committee, strengthening the line-up with his national experience.

Former Akwa Ibom governor Udom Emmanuel will chair the constitutional amendment technical committee, one of the most sensitive groups ahead of the convention.

Suspended Kogi senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has been chosen to chair welfare and entertainment, while Oyo deputy governor Adebayo Lawal takes responsibility for the venue.

Dr Emmanuel Agbo, director-general of the PDP Governors’ Forum, will oversee monitoring and evaluation, while the sale of nomination forms continues in Abuja as the party zones its presidential ticket to the South and chairmanship to the North.
