Pastor orders his church members to fight their enemies in the rain

A viral video circulating on social media has stirred heated debate across Nigeria after a pastor instructed his congregation to bring canes to church and later led them outside in the rain for a symbolic exercise.
In the footage, members of the church were seen standing under heavy rainfall, repeatedly striking the ground with their canes.
The pastor reportedly described the act as a spiritual way of confronting unseen enemies.
Mixed Reactions Trail Viral Video
The unusual scene has drawn widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing concern, criticism, and disbelief over the practice.
Chief & Queen wrote: “Some of the things people do in the name of faith are pure madness. Faith shouldn’t be about stunts or public drama, it’s supposed to uplift, not leave people soaked and confused for goodness sake.”
Musa Adekunle shared a more detailed perspective, raising health and psychological concerns:
“Standing in the rain for long periods can increase the risk of infections like cold, flu and in some cases worsen conditions like pneumonia, especially for vulnerable people.
Repeatedly striking the ground with force can also lead to physical strain, muscle injury or joint pain, especially for older members.
There is also a mental health angle. When people are led to believe they are constantly “fighting enemies,” it can increase anxiety, fear and psychological stress over time.
If safety and wellbeing are not considered, such activities can do more harm than good.”
Another user, Big Chris, questioned the relevance of such practices in modern times:
“Jesus!!!!! So this thing still happens in 2026?? When will some people wake up from this madness. The rule of life is simple, if you don’t hustle, you’ll never be successful. If you like pray and sweep the entire redemption camp, you’ll just remain the same!”
Idfwsm also reacted strongly, saying: “People Wey suppose gather use the cane flog the pastor wey give them this kind work inside rain. Religious psychosis is a disease mehn.”
Fujiverse added: “Sometimes I wonder what happened to our own will of thinking because this flogging the ground doesn’t change anything in your life you just wasted your money and your time doing nothing.”
Mad creator concluded with a blunt take: “I will keep saying this, Religion is a curse to Africa, it’s good to have faith, but this here is plain stupidity, The enemies wey dem Dey flog go just Dey house Dey collect ac.”
