Owen: Ratcliffe risks ‘lynching’ if Carrick is not given Man United job

Michael Owen has called on Manchester United to appoint Michael Carrick as permanent manager, warning of backlash if the club opts for another direction.
Carrick, currently in interim charge following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim, has overseen a strong run of results, winning seven of his first ten matches.
Owen backs Carrick amid speculation
Despite his impact, there have been suggestions that United could pursue a more experienced coach, with names such as Oliver Glasner, Julian Nagelsmann and Roberto De Zerbi linked.
Owen, however, believes Carrick has earned the opportunity.
“Imagine if you got rid of Michael Carrick… and things started spiralling again; the ownership would get absolutely lynched,” he said.

“I’m astounded by certain people saying no, they shouldn’t appoint him. Why on earth is this even a question?”
Warning to club leadership
The former United forward also pointed to the club’s struggles since the departure of Alex Ferguson in 2013, noting that multiple managerial approaches have failed to deliver sustained success.
“They’ve tried everything… and after a dozen years of trying and failing, you land on somebody that’s getting a tune out of the players. How on earth can anybody say that he shouldn’t continue?” Owen added.
He stopped short of calling for a long-term deal but insisted continuity is key given the team’s current trajectory.
With co-owner Jim Ratcliffe expected to make a decision in the coming months, Carrick remains a leading candidate as United weigh their options.
