“Our children are dying…” – Elderly soldier’s mother breaks down in tears, begs Nigerian govt for help

An elderly Nigerian mother of a soldier has broken down in tears while pleading with the country’s leaders over the difficult conditions faced by troops fighting insecurity across the nation.

The woman, who is both the mother of a serving soldier and the wife of a retired soldier, lamented that many troops are suffering silently in the bush while battling bandits, kidnappers and insurgents.

Speaking in an emotional video currently making rounds online, she called on Nigerian leaders to pay more attention to the welfare and safety of soldiers who risk their lives daily for the country.

According to her, she has already advised her own son to return home if he feels he can no longer endure the harsh conditions on the frontlines.

In her words:

“Please, the leaders of Nigeria, our children are crying in the bush. They are suffering. These are people’s children. I have told my son if he is no longer fit, he should come back home. God will feed us. I don’t want to lose my child.”

The distressed mother added that she would rather have her son alive at home than lose him while serving the country.

She stressed that many families are worried about their loved ones in the military, urging the government to prioritise the welfare and protection of soldiers.

The emotional plea quickly sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing sympathy for soldiers and their families.

One user wrote, “This video made me emotional. So heartbreaking.” Another added, “The government needs to do better for our soldiers. These are people’s children for Christ’s sake.”
