Osimhen strike hands Galatasaray best league start in 18 years

Victor Osimhen made history for Galatasaray on Sunday, scoring in a 4-0 humiliation of Kayserispor to help the Turkish champions achieve their best league start since the 2007/08 season.

The Nigerian forward, making his first start since a high-profile summer move, struck in the 86th minute to register his debut goal for the club and cap a dominant performance at the Kadir Has Stadium.

His strike ensured Galatasaray opened their Super Lig campaign with three straight wins without conceding, a defensive and attacking balance not seen at the club in 18 years.

Eren Elmali had earlier given Galatasaray a two-goal cushion, pouncing on a rebound in the first half before heading in a second after the break.

Osimhen then combined sharply with Mauro Icardi and Nicolo Zaniolo before finishing a Zaniolo cross to make it 3-0.

Leroy Sané, another summer addition, sealed the rout with a stoppage-time effort.

The clean sweep means Galatasaray have matched their record of 2007/08 season, when current coach Orkan Buruk was still a player.

That campaign ended with the league title, a sign many fans hope history will repeat itself with Osimhen leading the attack.

Next up, the Super Eagles striker and his teammates host Rizespor at Rams Park as they look to extend their flawless start.
