Osimhen scores as Galatasaray brush aside Başakşehir to extend title lead

Galatasaray strengthened their push for the Turkish Süper Lig title with a dominant 3-0 win over İstanbul Başakşehir on Saturday evening.

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen was among the goals as the league leaders took control in the second half at RAMS Park to maintain their advantage at the top of the table.

The match remained evenly balanced until the 56th minute when Başakşehir defender Festy Ebosele was sent off after receiving his second yellow card, leaving the visitors to continue with ten men.

Galatasaray capitalise on red card

Galatasaray quickly made their numerical advantage count.

Just one minute after the dismissal, Wilfried Singo broke the deadlock by heading home a cross delivered by Noa Lang.

The hosts extended their lead in the 66th minute when Osimhen finished clinically after a well-timed through pass from Yunus Akgün.

Osimhen’s goal effectively put the game beyond reach and continued the Nigerian international’s impressive scoring run in the Turkish top flight this season.

Late goal seals dominant win

Galatasaray added a third goal in the closing stages when substitute Renato Nhaga found the net late on.

The goal was briefly reviewed by VAR before being confirmed, sealing a comfortable victory for the home side.

The result moves Galatasaray to 64 points after 26 league matches, leaving them seven points clear of title rivals Fenerbahçe.

With eight matches remaining in the season, manager Okan Buruk’s side remain firmly on course to secure another league title.

Galatasaray will now shift focus to European action, where they are set to travel to face Liverpool in a crucial UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second leg.
