Osimhen fires Galatasaray past Fenerbahce in Istanbul derby

Victor Osimhen delivered a decisive performance as Galatasaray secured a dominant 3-0 win over Fenerbahce in the Istanbul derby, tightening their grip on the Turkish Super Lig title race.

The Super Eagles striker opened the scoring just before half-time at Rams Park, showing sharp control to bring down a pass from Mario Lemina before finishing calmly beyond the goalkeeper.

Clinical edge before and after break

Galatasaray’s breakthrough came after a competitive opening period, with Osimhen’s composure providing the cutting edge.

The hosts carried that performance into the second half and doubled their advantage when Barış Alper Yılmaz converted from the penalty spot.

Midfielder Lucas Torreira added a third to seal a comprehensive victory.

Osimhen impact remains decisive

Osimhen’s goal takes his tally to 13 league goals and four assists in 20 appearances, reinforcing his importance since his permanent move last summer.

Prior to a recent injury setback, the Nigerian had contributed either a goal or assist in nine consecutive league matches.

His absence had coincided with a dip in form for Galatasaray, who managed just two wins in four matches without him. His return has now restored attacking efficiency at a critical stage of the season.

Title race tilts in Galatasaray’s favour

The result moves Galatasaray seven points clear at the top of the table with three matches remaining, placing them in strong control of the title race.

For Fenerbahce, the defeat represents a major setback, leaving them with limited margin for error in the closing stages of the campaign.
