Osimhen closes in on Galatasaray Champions League record

Victor Osimhen is within touching distance of rewriting Galatasaray’s history in the UEFA Champions League.
The Nigerian striker has scored six goals in six matches in this season’s competition, placing him firmly on course to challenge the club’s single-season scoring record in Europe’s elite tournament.
Record within reach
Galatasaray’s benchmark remains the eight goals scored by Burak Yılmaz during the 2012/13 campaign, when the Istanbul side reached the quarter-finals before being eliminated by Real Madrid.
Osimhen now requires two goals to equal that tally and three to set a new outright record. With a two-legged playoff against Juventus still to be played, the opportunity remains firmly within reach.

The first leg will take place at RAMS Park in Istanbul before the return fixture in Turin next week.
Impact beyond Europe
Osimhen’s influence has extended to domestic competition. He has scored nine goals in 16 league appearances, helping Galatasaray maintain a three-point lead over rivals Fenerbahçe at the top of the table.
Head coach Okan Buruk has recently paired Osimhen with Mauro Icardi in attack, a tactical adjustment that has yielded positive results, including a 5-1 home victory last weekend.
Looking ahead to Juventus, Buruk acknowledged the scale of the challenge, noting the Italian side’s pace on the wings and attacking unpredictability.
However, he expressed confidence that Galatasaray are better prepared physically and mentally than in previous European campaigns.
The Turkish champions have not reached the Champions League last 16 in over a decade. With Osimhen’s current scoring rate, the prospect of ending that run and setting a new club record remains realistic.
